Help Kids in Need Love to Read!
ALL kids deserve a fighting chance!
Beth's Fundraising Page A Project of Read to a Child
I have the privilege of witnessing the profound impact of the Read to a Child's Lunchtime Reading Program on participating students, both from the perspective as Read to a Child's Director of Finance and Operations but also from the close-up perspective of a volunteer reader at a local school. I love reading to and spending time with the fourth grade student I have mentored now for three years, and I am pretty sure (hopeful?:)) that the feeling is mutual.
Throughout my involvement with Read to a Child, I learned that 80% of low-income children in the United States do not read proficiently by 4th grade and that 2/3rds of these children spend time on welfare or in jail. Our program model brings together the power of mentoring with the power of reading aloud to improve outcomes for children.
The goal of this campaign is to raise $100,000 this March (National Reading Month). $5 can put a new book on one of our 30+ book carts across the country and $500 can support a reading pair for a year.
You can help by donating to Read to a Child (many of you already have - thank you, thank you, thank you!), donating to or volunteering with another organization close to your heart, reading to a child, and helping to spread the word. You can help spread the word by participating in our Book Bracket Challenge which is on Facebook all March.
There are so many worthy, wonderful causes/ places that need and would benefit from our support. Those of you interested in supporting literacy/mentoring, then please know that Read to a Child is a wonderful organization close to my heart.
