Every kid needs a mentor in their life, especially one who encourages them to read!
As an added incentive to donate, I will cut my hair and donate it to Children With Hair Loss if I reach my $750 goal!
Maricor's Read to a Child Fundraising Page A Project of Read to a Child
*That's the student I read with, alongside my supervisor, every other Wednesday at lunch. He's so excited about us reading to him (he can't even put his book down to take this picture; although he seems to have the multi-tasking down when it comes to cutting hair! lol). It's been a pleasure reading with him this year.
I've been working for Read to a Child now a little over 3 years now, as the LA affiliate Program Manager. I love my job because I get to work on issues I'm most passionate about: literacy, reading, and education. I love hearing from volunteers, students, and school coordinators about how much they love the program (we pair mostly business professionals with students from low-income backgrounds to read together once a week during lunch), and the difference it's made in their lives.
I've also had the pleasure of being a volunteer in the program, too. I'm now reading to my second student (as I read with my last student from 2nd to 4th grade). It's our first year reading together, alongside my boss. His mom and him are so happy that he has us reading to him. He likes that he has volunteers who read to only him. He's enjoyed the one-on-one attention we give him.
The smiles and inquisitive looks I see on everyone's faces when I do site visits is priceless. Please consider making a donation (any amount is good!) today, so we can provide more mentors, and reading sessions to deserving children across Los Angeles. There are so many more who need it. No donation is too small. $5 is great! It all adds up, especially if you encourage your friends, family, and co-workers to give.
