Help Kids in Need Love to Read!

Alex Fey - Los Angeles Director A Project of Read to a Child

Dear family and friends,

Read to a Child's goal to raise $100,000 this March will provide 6,000 reading sessions to children in need. Read to a Child serves the most vulnerable children by increasing their prospects for academic success through one-on-one reading experiences with caring adult volunteers. Our trained volunteer reading mentors provide critical one on one educational assistance through our Lunchtime Reading Program.

For most of us our love of reading and books was sparked by our parents who read aloud to us every night before bed. What was your favorite book from childhood? Perhaps it was Harry Potter, Where the Wild Things Are, Goodnight Moon, The Giving Tree, or my favorite, White Fang.

Please join me and donate on this page and help spread the word. Unfortunately, not every child is lucky enough to be read to regularly. 80% of 4th graders from low-income families are not proficient in reading. Read to a Child's Lunchtime Reading Program inspires our kids so that they not only love to read but love to learn through reading. Reading aloud to a child is the single most important thing you can do to help them succeed in reading and in in life.

Please contribute and help open up a child's world through reading. I devote my time each week reading to my 2nd grade reading buddy Nicholas at a local elementary school. I've experienced first-hand how much he looks forward to our weekly sessions. It makes a difference and provides the reinforcement he needs to boost self-confidence that's so vital for learning.

Thank you so much for supporting Read to a Child. With your help, we can Help Kids in Need Love to Read!
