Gavin's Fundraising Page A Project of Read to a Child
March is National Reading Month and today Read to a Child is officially launching its Fifth Annual Online Fundraising Campaign 'Help Kids in Need Love to Read'. I want to personally invite you to help us reach our goal of raising $100,000 in the month of March to support 6,000 individualized reading sessions for at-risk elementary school children across the country.
Read to a Child runs a Lunchtime Reading Program that matches 800+ at-risk students with adult volunteer mentors for one-on-one read aloud time each week. We bring the program at no cost to 16 schools throughout Greater Boston
Throughout my involvement with Read to a Child, I learned that 80% of low-income children in the United States do not read proficiently by 4th grade and that 1/4 of these children won't graduate from high school! I was surprised by the magnitude of the problem and am interested in learning more about children's literacy issues.
I became a volunteer reading mentor in the challenging Roxbury neighborhood of Boston and joined the local board of Read to a Child. I am also proud to say that more than 20% of my colleagues at ArcLight are volunteer reading mentors.
Please join me in supporting Read to a Child by making a personal donation, or by becoming a sponsor (sponsorship information can be found here).
On behalf of Read to a Child, our 1,700 volunteer reading mentors and children around our country who are benefiting from our program, I'd like to extend a very warm and sincere 'Thank You'. Your support is truly appreciated.
