Open Up a Child's World Through Reading
Change the Course of a Child's Future - Over Lunch

Hello Family, Friends, and Caring Adults!
This is my third year as the School Coordinator for Read to a Child at the Brophy School in Framingham. I LOVE my job. I love when one of "my" kids comes up to me in the hallway and gives me a smile or a big hug because of what I represent. I love it even more when a child gives their reading mentor a big smile or a hug. I love that they are so into the program that they ask why their readers don't come every day of the week. I love seeing the progress in a child from year to year and to watch as they go from shy, sweet, inquisitive first and second graders to interesting and even more inquisitive third and fourth graders who have great conversations with their mentors. This job with this organization is one of the most fulfilling roles I have ever had and I love it!
So, what is Read to a Child? Read to a Child's mission statement is "to foster a love of reading, improve literacy skills and empower underserved children by inspiring adults to read to them regularly." It really is that simple - we match up reading mentors with children for lunch one day every week throughout the school year. These children receive the benefits of more "eyes-on-print" time and one-on-one time with a caring adult who often stays with their mentor for the entire time they are in the program. Our volunteers give so much to our program by making a difference in the life of a child.
How can you help? A $25 donation can get a series of chapter books into a child's hands, $50 can provide screening and training of a volunteer, and $100 can sponsor a year-end celebration and certificates for the children in the program. $250 can provide a school with new books customized to children's interests and teacher requests and $500 can sponsor a child in Read to a Child's lunchtime reading program for a whole year. Every bit helps us to fulfill our mission statement!
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our program and for your support!
